Deacon Argailious Harley was born to Mr. Elliott and Mrs. Zurie Breland Harley, June 20, 1918, in Islandton South Carolina. He was one of eleven children. He walked to school in the community with his brothers, sisters, and cousins. The family church was Sykes Savannah United Methodist Church, where he joined at a young age. His first jobs were for farmers and Construction Companies in the area.

During World War Two, he served his country in the United States Army. While in Italy, he was wounded and he later received an honorable discharge and purple heart.

Before going into the Army, he was introduced to a young teacher, Miss Aurelia Pearson from Bennettsville, South Carolina. They were united in marriage on January 19, 1946. This lovely union blessed them with two daughters—Gloria Ann and Gail Aurelia.

He loved farming and for many years planted corn, cotton, and tobacco. He raised pigs, cows, chickens, and turkeys. You never saw lean but always well fed animals on his farm.

In 1965, he began working part time at the Walterboro Post Office. Later it became his full time job. He kept it spotless and there was always some beautiful flowers growing. He was a people's person, and was remembered for years after retiring for his beautiful smile while working there. While working at the Post Office, Deacon Harley realized the need to finish High School and went back to night school and encouraged others in the community to go back as well. He received his diploma and a letter of commendation from his job.

Elder and Sister Bradley witnessed to Deacon Harley about water baptism in Jesus name and receiving the Holy Ghost, but it was not until one of the Elders they knew in Germany came and walked those
beloved fields with him and talked the word of God continuously that he surrendered and was baptized in water in Jesus' name in Charleston, South Carolina one night. Some time later, he received the baptism of the Holy Ghost, speaking in other tongues as it is written in the scriptures. By this time he had become head of the Trustee Board of Sykes Savannah United Methodist Church and took care of their banking deposits. Even after he moved his membership and helped his son-in-law, Elder Raul C. Bradley found Lively Stone Temple, they still
depended on him to bank their money for years. He attended Sunday School in the home of Elder and Sister Bradley and later helped get the "Corn House" ready for services. Deacon Argailious Harley and Deacon Esborn Williams
became the first deacons of Lively Stone Temple.

Down through the years he has continued to be an encourager and a
light to all around him. Many have chosen him as a father, grandfather, and
Godfather. He continued to serve under the pastorate of Bishop Paul Capers. He was recently honored as a "Man of Distinction" in the community by his Church, Lively Stone Temple. He is well remembered for two of his favorite songs: "The Solid Rock" and "Everyday with Jesus is Sweeter than the Day

Deacon Harley leaves to cherish his passing: his loving wife of sixty-two years, Mrs. Aurelia Harley; two daughters, Gloria Ann (Raul) Bradley and Gail Aurelia (Dennis) Capers both of Islandton, SC; two sisters, Charlotte May of Newark, NJ and Rubye (Albert) Pressley of Islandton, SC; four sisters-in-law, Lugenia DuBois of Ruffin, SC, Lureden Pegues of Alexandria, VA, Hattie Harley of Cleveland, Ohio, and Minnie Pearson of Bennettsville, SC; three grandchildren, Joel (Regina) Bradley of Islandton, SC, Timothy (Tiffani)
Bradley of Charlotte, NC and Faith (Malik) Sherrod of Orangeburg, SC; great –grandchildren, Rasheed, Joel Malik, Nahndi, Saurelia, Madison, Taylor, Meadow, Tyre, Chace Montgomery, Timothy William and Bryson Argailious; a Godson, Ezra Pressley; a Goddaughter, Tawanica Davis and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
