Obituary

ARDIE LEE DEVOE PEDEN, the son of Ednola Peden Gray and the late Ardie Devoe, was born April 2, 1955 in Chicago, IL. He departed this life for a place of eternal rest surrounded by his loving wife and daughter, Alexis, on Monday, June 25, 2018, at the Ralph H. Johnson V A Medical Center in Charleston, SC, following an extended illness.

Ardie (affectionately known as "Bay Bay") graduated from Cocoa High School in Cocoa, FL, where he was an outstanding track runner. After high school, he enlisted into the United States Armed Forces in 1975. While in the military, he was a human resources specialist and was responsible for the readiness, health and welfare of Soldiers. He traveled to many places during his active enlistment including Korea and Germany. He received many medals of honor, which included:Army Achievement Medal 2 nd Award, Good Conduct medal 5 th Award, National Defense Service Medal, Expert Marksmanship Badge Rifle, M-16, and Driver and Mechanic Badge Driver. After courageously serving 20 years, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.

Ardie was a member of Sharpes Church of God, Sharpes, FL. He was a dedicated employee (forklift operator) for many years at Zenith TV in Chicago, IL and at Contico Plastic Company in St. Louis, MO.

Ardie had a passion for reading and collecting marvel comic books starting at the age of eleven and continuing until his demise. He did a superb job of labeling and filing his collection. He also collected and loved Jimi Hendrix music.

Ardie was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Devoe Peden; three uncles, Oleado Devoe, Nathaniel Devoe, and Levi Devoe; and former wife, Jeannette Peden (mother of his children, Candice and Nola).

Ardie leaves loving memories that will be cherished forever as his family celebrates his life: loving and devoted wife, Ernestine C. Peden of Summerville, SC; three daughters, Alexis Peden of Summerville, SC, Candice Peden (Antaun Woodard, Sr.) and Nola Peden, all of Montgomery, AL; four grandchildren; mother, Ednola Gray (stepfather, Harold Gray) of Chicago, IL; six sisters, Shirley Blacher, Theresa Gray, and Khadijah Madina (Gladys Devoe), all of Chicago, IL, Pearl Crumpton (Wayne) of Evanston, IL, Phyllis Gray of Minneapolis, MN, and Tracy Stallworth of Markham, FL; three brothers, Frank Devoe Peden (Jennifer) of Miami, FL, Javan Gray and Harold Gray Jr., both of Chicago, IL; one aunt, Anna L. Devoe Pratt (Rev. Claudius) of Sharpes, FL; one uncle, Samuel Devoe (Barbara) of Chicago, IL; four sisters-in-law, Betty Peden of FL, Patricia Cam, Loretta Glover, and Dorene Cummings (Gerald), all of St. George, SC; six brothers-in-law, McCoy Glover, Eugene Barnwell, Arthur Cummings (Inga), Ernest Cummings, Floyd Cummings, and Tony Glover (Valerie), all of St. George, SC. He is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
