Obituary

Annie Vernita Stokes Martino born February 19, 1946 to the late Dorothy J. Seals.  She departed this life on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 5:45 a.m. at her residence.

At an early age she joined St. Matthews Baptist Church and served faithfully on the kitchen committee and the choir until her health declined.

Annie V. grew up in St. George, SC where she graduated from Branchville High School in 1964.

Annie V. was a hard worker who took pride in everything that she did.  Annie V. was an on time dedicated worker that gave part of her life to Carolina Girls (1968) in St. George, SC for over twenty years before the business closed down.  She then began working at W & B Enterprise (a printing company) of Orangeburg, SC for over twenty years until her health declined in July 2019.  Annie V. had such a wonderful time working at the printing company.  She would always say, "once I get better, I'm going back to work".

After Annie V's health declined, she was in out and out of the hospital.  She had been temporarily residing at the Sandpiper Rehab/Nursing Facility to gain her strength back and to improve her health.  She would often mention that she was ready to come back home.  Her daughter, Pamela got her discharged and brought her home on Saturday, February 22, 2020 to Lemon Grove Road.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late Wilson Martino, Jr. for 33 years, and to this union they were blessed with three children whom she was very proud of and loved dearly.

Annie was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Journey Martino; one sister, Evon Stafford; one brother, Allen Summers; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hill and Janie Mae Simmons.

She leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, James (Pamela) Martino, Sr.  of Charleston, SC and Thomas (Alicia) Martino of St. George, SC; one daughter, Pamela Martino of Columbia, SC; ten grandchildren, Shakiea Allen, Tameka (James) Gadson, Mariah (Marcus) Benson, Tomohne Martino, Delesha Brown, James Martino, Jr., Janya Martino, DaRyeus Ford, Jaden Martino; eight great grandchildren; six sisters, Carolyn Summers of St. George, SC, Albertha (Charles) Jones, Marilyn Seals of North Charleston, Dorothy Williams of Ladson, SC, Alice (Duran) Hooks of Atlanta, GA and Brenda Gordon of Dorchester, SC; four brothers, Harold (Sharon) Seals of Atlanta, GA, John Henry Seals of St. George, SC, Eugene Seals and Roosevelt Seals both of Dorchester, SC; honorary brother, James (Lorraine) Green; honorary son, Anthony (Victoria) Wright; three brothers-in-law, Elex (Freddie) Martino of Titusville, FL, Ernest (Gloria) Martino of St. George, SC and Billy Stafford; best friend, Helen Glover of NY; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
