Mr. Alfonzo Shuler, "Fonzo" as he was lovingly called, was born on September 30, 1930 in the home of the late Marion and Mary Jane Shuler. He was number six of twelve children. He departed this life on January 26, 2016 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, SC. He was united in marriage to Lovetta Glover and to this union five children were born.

Alonzo attended Pineville School in Bowman, SC and was employed by Infinger Lumber Company in Rosenville for 35 years until he retired. Alfonzo was a hard worker and a true believer of family values. He wasn't one of many words, but when he spoke his words were impactful.

He enjoyed spending his retirement watching his "stories" and some of his favorite shows, Sanford & Son, Deal or No Deal and Gun Smoke. He also enjoyed sitting on his front porch watching over his yard and enjoying his quiet time.

He spent his life being a respectful and devoted husband for 49 years. He was a generous and self-sacrificing father and caring brother and uncle. And the joy he felt being a grandfather was displayed by the proud smile he often showed when he saw each one of them.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lovetta Shuler; daughter, Lillie Marie Shuler; son, Alfonzo Shuler, Jr.; brothers, Herbert Shuler, Marion Shuler, Jr., Blease Shuler, Sr., Vernon Shuler, and Nathaniel Shuler and his sisters, Julia Mae Jones, Virgil Lee Shuler and Louis Shuler.

Alfonzo leaves to cherish his fond memories: his two daughters, Bridgett (Henry) Summers, Jr. of Bowman, SC and Pastor Jean Carpenter of New York; a special granddaughter reared in the home as a daughter, Yoursheka (Courtney) McClorin, Sr. of Bowman, SC; a son, Curtis (Sharon) Shuler, Sr. of the home; 7 grandchildren, Charett Summers, Henry Summers, Jr., Shaquetta (Devin) Pelzer, Curtis Shuler, Jr., Arisha Davis, Garrick Carpenter and Melissa Carpenter; 16 great grandchildren, including his 2 great granddaughters, whom he called his little nurses, Kendra Johnson and Courna McClorin; one sister, Elease Frazier of Branchville, SC; two brothers, Nehemiah (Bernice) Shuler of Bowman, SC and Daniel Shuler of New York; sister-in-law, Louis Tracy of Bowman, SC; a special niece, Ora Lee Murray of St. George, SC; an adopted daughter, Sallie Void-Jones of Orangeburg, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
